Eligible on-premises retailers, manufacturers with an on-site sales and consumption permit, and temporary licensees can extend alcohol sales, service, and consumption until 4:00 a.m. For these events, they can operate 24 hours a day. The event must be cultural, a qualifying sporting event organized by a league or association, or a tourism-related event likely to draw visitors from more than 50 miles and help the District’s economy. Licensees must register with the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Board, give written notice at least 3 calendar days before the event starts, and pay at least a $100 registration fee. The Board notifies the Metropolitan Police Department at least 48 hours before extended hours begin. The Board publishes notice in the D.C. Register when feasible and posts it on its website within 24 hours. Fees go to the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration Fund. This program does not change other extended-hours rules already set elsewhere in District law.
