Bars can serve until 4 a.m. during events

Bars, restaurants, and venues with an on-premises retailer’s license can extend alcohol sales until 4:00 a.m. for cultural, sporting, or tourism events. Manufacturers with an on-site sales and consumption permit, and temporary licensees, may also join. They may also operate 24 hours during these events. To take part, the business must register with the Board, pay at least $100, and give written notice at least 3 calendar days before the first day of the event. The Board notifies the Metropolitan Police Department at least 48 hours before extended hours start. It publishes notice in the D.C. Register when feasible and posts it online within 24 hours. The law takes effect upon mayoral approval and lasts no longer than 90 days. Fees go to the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration Fund.
