Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Public safety reports due by May 7

The Criminal Justice Coordinating Council must file required reports by May 7, 2025. One report covers adults and one covers juveniles. The law also ties some reporting to the effective dates of the Prioritizing Public Safety Emergency and the Secure DC Omnibus, so duties start after those dates.

DC pretrial detention rules extended to July 15

The law keeps DC’s pretrial detention rules in force until July 15, 2025. It replaces the old 225‑day timing rule with this fixed date. Courts and people facing charges must follow these rules through that date.

Emergency law starts Jan 1, lasts 90 days

The act applies as of January 1, 2025. It takes effect after the Mayor approves it or the Council overrides a veto. As an emergency law, it stays in force for no more than 90 days.
