More school help with NIL deals

The law lets colleges, conferences, and athletic associations help with NIL deals. They can help pick, arrange, or pay a NIL agent for a college athlete. They can also help arrange for or collect payments from brands and other third parties in NIL agreements. The law repeals the old ban on schools or conferences paying athletes for the use of their name, image, or likeness.

Financial disclosure rules delayed to 2026

The District delays 3 DCMR § 5710. That rule does not apply before January 1, 2026. If you serve on the covered boards or commissions, you do not need to meet the expanded financial disclosure rules until that date.

Emergency law lasts up to 90 days

The act takes effect when the Mayor approves it or after a Council override. It stays in force for no longer than 90 days. The other changes in this act are immediate but temporary.
