Tree removal permits for Long Bridge

The Mayor must issue a permit to remove a Heritage Tree that abuts or is within the Long Bridge Project site managed by the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority. All of these must be true. There is no reasonable design alternative to avoid the tree. The Urban Forestry Division determines the tree cannot be protected in place. The applicant shows that relocation would cost more than $1,000,000 or would cause an undue public burden. The applicant must pay $1,200 for each inch of the tree’s circumference. This emergency law remains in effect for no longer than 90 days from approval.
