Beginning October 18, 2025, certain DC businesses may refuse cash. A retail establishment with a valid on‑premises Class C or Class D license can go cashless. A restaurant that is open 24 hours, or open at 3:00 a.m. at least two days a week, can also go cashless. They must post a clear written notice on the door or on the menu that cash is not accepted. This emergency act remains in effect no longer than 90 days.
