Federal qualifications count for Florida lab licenses

Beginning July 1, 2026, Florida accepts specified federal qualifications toward minimum requirements for clinical lab licenses. Technologist and technician applicants qualify for high-complexity testing by meeting 42 C.F.R. § 493.1489. Technician applicants qualify for moderate-complexity testing by meeting 42 C.F.R. § 493.1423. Both paths remain subject to the existing exceptions in Florida Statutes § 483.812. A license can authorize work in one or more testing categories.

Florida lab applicants must complete licensing steps

Beginning July 1, 2026, Florida clinical lab license applications must be made under oath on Department forms. Applicants must complete background screening under Florida Statutes § 456.0135 and pay applicable licensing fees. Those using the federal qualification paths must also provide proof of their qualifications. They must pay the fees required under Florida Statutes § 483.807. The law does not state fee amounts.
