LaGatta estate gets settlement with claim limits

Effective upon becoming law, the law provides a one-time $1.2 million payment to Mark LaGatta’s estate. It covers injuries and damages from the July 27, 2020, transportation work-zone collision near Cedar Key, Florida. The money comes from the State Transportation Trust Fund, and Florida’s Chief Financial Officer must issue the payment. This award and the transportation department’s earlier $120,000 payment are the only compensation for all present and future claims from that incident. Attorney fees for this claim cannot exceed 25% of the new award, or $300,000.
