Higher district tax ceiling with yearly limits

The law allows North St. Lucie River Water Control District’s annual maintenance tax ceiling to rise from $25 to $50 per acre. The higher ceiling requires majority approval in a landowner referendum, using the same voting method as district board elections. St. Lucie County’s Supervisor of Elections must conduct the mail-ballot vote by December 31, 2026. The tax must be equal and uniform, including for parcels smaller than one acre, and yearly rate increases cannot exceed 10%. The law does not set the actual tax rate the district will charge.
