Latours get $500,000 to settle injury claims

Effective upon becoming law, the law directs Miami-Dade County to pay Lourdes and Edward Latour a one-time $500,000 payment. It covers injuries and damages from the gate incident, using county funds not committed to other purposes. Together with the $300,000 already paid, the settlement totals $800,000. These payments are the only compensation for all current and future claims arising from the incident. Attorney fees for this claim cannot exceed 25% of the law’s $500,000 award, or $125,000.
