Coaches can help student athletes

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Florida High School Athletic Association must adopt rules allowing head coaches to fund student support. One head coach per team can spend personal money on students they coach, including food, transportation, and recovery services. Spending is capped at $15,000 per team each year, and written parental consent is required before support is provided. Coaches must report spending; it is presumed allowed unless unreported, judged by the association as not in good faith, or used for recruiting. Other Florida groups governing school sports can choose to adopt similar rules. Support is optional for coaches, so families are not guaranteed help.
