More Alzheimer’s help for Floridians and caregivers

Beginning July 1, 2026, Florida’s Department of Elderly Affairs must contract for a statewide Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Initiative. It provides research-backed information and support for people affected by Alzheimer’s and related dementias, including caregivers. A website and electronic resources must cover early detection, diagnosis, risk reduction, brain health, and healthy aging. They must also cover professional screening, research progress, clinical trials, community resources, and other topics the department finds appropriate. Materials must use the department’s dementia Resource Guide. The initiative promotes provider education with the Department of Health and uses print, digital, and social media ads for public events. Mobile, in-person outreach prioritizes underserved communities and provides health information, referrals to the department, and community resource information. The contractor must be a statewide nonprofit experienced in dementia support, online resources, community events, and supporting research. It must have the capacity to run the initiative and work with relevant state agencies and private organizations. The Alzheimer’s Disease Advisory Committee reviews results annually and includes future funding recommendations in its report to the department and Legislature. The law provides no dedicated funding amount.
