Dedicated funding for Florida child crime investigators

Beginning July 1, 2026, Florida creates a separate funding program for Internet Crimes Against Children task forces. Of money lawmakers approve for this program, 80% is split equally among task forces located in Florida and recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice. The Department of Law Enforcement receives 20% for its own efforts against these crimes. Funds can cover related administration, staff, overtime, training, travel, and technology purchases; the law specifies no total funding amount. The department can adopt rules to run the program.

Grants help Florida police fight child exploitation

Beginning July 1, 2026, Florida’s Online Sting Operations Grant Program becomes the Internet Crimes Against Children Grant Program. The Department of Law Enforcement must award grants annually when lawmakers set aside money, without exceeding that amount. Grants support local investigations and online sting operations targeting people who prey on children. They can cover overtime, travel, investigative or digital forensics training, hardware, software, and other needed supplies. Local agencies need a current agreement with a federally recognized Florida task force or department approval as in good standing. Good standing means receiving task force CyberTips and following the national program’s investigation standards. The department can set application periods and award criteria.
