Tighter public access to Florida test records

Effective upon becoming law, the law strengthens confidentiality for tests, materials used to develop them, and directly related workpapers. Covered holders include Florida public schools, district school boards, Florida College System institutions, state universities, and their boards of trustees. It also covers the Department of Education, State Board of Education, and Board of Governors. These records are closed to public inspection and copying, but the listed bodies may share them with one another. Schools, district school boards, colleges, and universities must provide covered information when any of those three state education bodies requests it. The State Board of Education and Board of Governors must set rules for keeping and disposing of covered records. Existing student and parent rights to student and education records remain unchanged. The exemption faces sunset review and ends October 2, 2031, unless lawmakers renew it.
