School districts must report unimproved land

Beginning July 1, 2026, every school district submits an annual inventory of all unimproved real property it owns as of June 30. For each parcel, districts report the parcel ID, acreage, address or location, acquisition date, current use (if any), and a fair market value based on the county appraiser’s most recent market value or an appraisal from the last 24 months. Unimproved property means land with no buildings or other permanent structures. The Department of Education compiles a statewide report with totals and a district-by-district breakdown. The first report is posted online by December 1, 2026, and updated every three years.
