Farms excluded from affordable housing land categories

Florida's county and city affordable housing rules exclude legally defined farms and farm operations from commercial, industrial, and mixed-use categories. This also excludes related uses, including packaging and selling products raised on the property. Commercial uses include stores, offices, restaurants, lodging, entertainment, and other for-profit activities. Land zoned to allow these uses without special approval counts as commercial, regardless of its local zoning label. Recreational uses within residential areas do not count as commercial. Industrial uses include manufacturing, repair, processing, and utility facilities; mixed use combines at least two residential, commercial, or industrial categories. These rules took effect when the law became law, with no new funding, taxes, or fees.
