If a person eligible for the state indemnification program dies in the line of duty, the estate gets $150,000. The executor can choose five equal yearly payments of $30,000. Or the executor can choose a lump sum equal to $150,000 reduced to present value at 6% per year.
The State Board of Workers' Compensation must tell the Department of Administrative Services and the employee when it has reason to believe the injured worker is an eligible peace officer. That notice must include contacts for the Georgia State Indemnification Fund and the state's temporary disability program. Each law enforcement agency must also notify such employees within 10 days of an injury that may cause disability. Agencies must include contact and other details set by the Department of Administrative Services.
