The annexation question appears on the date of the 2026 general primary election. Voters in the territory get a YES/NO ballot asking to approve the annexation act. The county election superintendent publishes the date and purpose once a week for the two weeks before the vote. The superintendent certifies results to the Secretary of State. Any extra cost to add this question is paid by the City of Lawrenceville.
The law expands Lawrenceville’s city limits to include specific parcels listed by Gwinnett County tax parcel IDs dated February 12, 2025. This only applies if more than half of votes are Yes on the annexation question. If approved, the annexation takes effect on December 31, 2026. If rejected, the act does not take effect and is repealed on July 1 after the election. For affected properties, city services, taxes, fees, and rules shift to the City of Lawrenceville after the effective date. The law also removes conflicting laws as needed to carry this out.
