School tax break for Colquitt homeowners

Beginning January 1, 2027, Colquitt school‑district homeowners get $10,000 off their home's assessed value for school property taxes. It applies only to school taxes for educational purposes and not to taxes that pay off school bonds. It does not change state, county, city, or independent school taxes. Apply once with the Colquitt County tax commissioner; it renews each year while you live there, for homesteads up to five connected acres. For these school taxes, this replaces the general state homestead break but can stack with other local school‑tax homestead exemptions, and it takes effect only if voters approve it at the 2026 general primary.
