Starting July 1, 2025, local school systems must tell new hires if Social Security taxes will be taken from pay. The notice must also say if the worker is eligible for a plan that provides Social Security (Title II) benefits and any other pension or retirement plan, with plan details if eligible. By December 31, 2025, and at least every five years after, current employees must get the same notice. At or near separation, each employee must be told whether Social Security taxes were withheld during their job.
Beginning July 1, 2025, local school boards may offer group medical and dental insurance to board members who enroll. The board pays the employer share, but no more than the percent the state pays for its own employee health plan. Board members must pay any remaining premium and all costs for family coverage. The board may deduct the member’s share from pay or collect it directly.
