Bill Overview

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Needs-based aid extended through 2029

The needs-based college aid program stays in place through June 30, 2029. Eligible low-income students can keep getting these awards until then. After that date, the law ends this subpart unless the state acts again.

Stricter rules for low‑income college aid

Georgia tightens who counts as an eligible student for needs-based aid. You must be from an economically disadvantaged family or have a financial aid gap the commission confirms. You must file the FAFSA, meet any academic standards the commission sets, and be eligible for a state scholarship or grant under Code Section 20-3-519.1. Progress rules: 80% of credits done in a four-year program, or 45% in a two-year program. If you fall short, you cannot get this award.
