Fairburn can charge up to 8% hotel tax

The law lets the City of Fairburn levy a lodging tax up to 8%. It covers hotels, motels, inns, campgrounds, and other paid rooms in the city. Lodging businesses licensed by the city must collect the tax, and guests pay it on their bill. A city resolution adopted January 13, 2025 sets the rate, projects, and how to split the money. If the rate is over 5%, at least half of the extra above 5% goes to tourism promotion; the rest funds tourism product development through the city’s destination marketing group or another contracted group.
