Bigger Gwinnett school tax break for homeowners

Beginning January 1, 2027, the school homestead exemption in Gwinnett County rises from $4,000 to $10,000 of assessed value. It applies only to your owner-occupied primary home. It lowers only Gwinnett school taxes for education, not taxes used to pay off bonds. Your savings equal the school tax rate times $10,000 of assessed value. Voters must approve this at the 2026 general primary; without majority approval or a proper election, the increase does not take effect and the Act is repealed 365 days after the election date.
