Vote on school tax break for Gwinnett workers and vets

The law expands who can get an extra homestead exemption that cuts your taxable value by $2,000 on Gwinnett school taxes. You must own and live in a home in the Gwinnett County School District and meet the job or veteran status by January 1 of the year you apply. Eligible groups include public service employees, all Gwinnett or Buford school district workers, and disabled veterans as defined in Georgia law. The law requires a vote on the 2026 general primary date; if a majority approve, it starts January 1, 2027. If voters do not approve, it does not take effect and is repealed 365 days after the election. Actual savings depend on the local school tax rate.
