3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.
Beginning January 1, 2026, dental plans in Georgia cannot deny a covered service just because it was done by teledentistry, when teledentistry is appropriate. Plans and providers may process teledentistry costs through electronic coverage as the Commissioner directs. Insurers also cannot force you to use teledentistry instead of an in-person exam.
Beginning January 1, 2026, the law defines teledentistry as live video with stored data under a Georgia dentist’s general supervision, and it is not the same as an in-person exam. Live two-way audio and video does not count as direct supervision. Dentists must notify the Board, keep a Georgia office, and have a referral relationship before offering teledentistry. Dentists may only provide teledentistry when they follow these rules.
Beginning January 1, 2026, dental insurers cannot require dentists to accept insurer-set fees for services a plan does not cover. They cannot tie network access to fees for noncovered services. They also cannot send EOB forms that suggest dentists should give discounts on noncovered care.
