Surcharge funds locked to court and police tech

The city keeps the technology surcharge money in a separate account, managed by the city's CFO and the court clerk. The city manager must approve spending. Money can be used only for court and police technology. It can pay to buy, lease, install, and maintain computers and software. It also covers scanners, fax, communications, projectors, and printers. The funds can also reimburse the city's IT department for services to the court or police.

Up to $10 surcharge on Cleveland court fines

When you pay a criminal or quasi-criminal fine in Cleveland Municipal Court, you may owe a technology surcharge. The judge sets the amount by court order, up to $10 per fine. This surcharge is added on top of the fine you owe.
