Who can run for city office

To run for mayor or council, you must have lived in Donalsonville for at least 12 months before the election. You must stay a city resident while in office. You must also be registered and qualified to vote in city elections.

Donalsonville can choose voting locations

City elections must be held at city hall or another place inside the city. The mayor and council choose the voting location.

Donalsonville voters get new election schedule

All general city elections are on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November 2025, and every two years after. Most terms are four years and start January 1 after the election. Officers serve until a successor is elected and qualified. The mayor elected in November 2025 serves two years; the mayor elected in November 2027 serves four years. People elected before this law keep their original term lengths unless state law allows a change.
