The law adds two judges to the State Court of Fulton County, for 12 total judges. The Governor appoints the initial judges as soon as practicable after the law takes effect. Those appointments last until December 31, 2026, and until successors are elected and qualified. Voters elect successors at the May 2026 nonpartisan general election. Elected judges serve four-year terms starting January 1, 2027. The new judges have the same powers and pay as current judges. Any Fulton County salary supplements also apply. This law overrides any older state laws that conflict with it.
