On July 1, 2035, the court’s authority to charge this technology fee ends. After that date, the clerk cannot add the fee to filings or fines. Any money left stays dedicated to Terrell County technology uses.
Money from these fees can be used only for the Terrell County Probate Court’s technology needs. Allowed uses include computers, software, leases, maintenance, audio‑visual and scanning gear, and converting records to digital files for public access. The clerk must keep the money in a separate account. An auditor approved by the county’s governing authority can audit the account.
The Terrell County Probate Court clerk can charge up to $5 for each civil filing. The clerk can also add up to $5 to each criminal fine from that court. If the probate judge also serves as the magistrate judge, the same up to $5 charge applies to magistrate court filings and fines. The probate judge sets the exact amount. This authority ends on July 1, 2035.
