Larger property tax break for Peachtree seniors

The law raises Peachtree City’s senior homestead exemption for city property taxes to $30,000 of assessed value, up from $5,000. It applies only to municipal (city) property taxes. You must be age 65 or older and live in the home. Your income, plus your spouse’s income if your spouse also lives there, must be $60,000 or less for the prior year. Only the first $30,000 of assessed value is exempt; the rest is still taxed. The change takes effect January 1, 2026 if city voters approve it on November 4, 2025. If voters do not approve or the election is not held as required, the change is repealed one year after the election date.
