Vidalia voters decide on redevelopment powers

The law calls a citywide vote in Vidalia on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. The ballot asks whether to let the city use all powers under Georgia’s Redevelopment Powers Law. If more than half vote YES, Vidalia can create tax allocation districts, issue tax allocation bonds, and start other redevelopment work right away. These tools can affect future local tax and spending decisions. If voters do not approve or the election is not held as required, the Act is repealed on January 1, 2026. The city must publish notice at least 90 days before and weekly for the two weeks before the vote in the official Toombs County paper, pay the election cost, and have the superintendent certify results to the Secretary of State.
