2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.
Beginning January 1, 2026, if you own and live in a home in the Bryan County School District, you get a school tax break. Your exemption equals the amount your current assessed value is above your base‑year value (the year before you first qualify, including any final appeal). It does not cover new improvements or land added after the base year, and it counts at most five contiguous acres. You must file once with the Bryan County Tax Commissioner; it renews each year while you live there, and a surviving spouse keeps it while living in the home. This applies only to Bryan County school taxes for educational purposes, not to state, county, or city taxes, and it takes effect only if voters approved it on November 4, 2025.
The law requires a countywide vote on November 4, 2025 about the Bryan County school homestead exemption. The superintendent must publish notice for two weeks, use the set Yes/No ballot, certify results to the Secretary of State, and the county pays the costs. If most voters say yes, the exemption starts January 1, 2026. If voters reject it or the election is not run as required, the exemption does not start and the Act is repealed 365 days after the election. Any voter in the school district can ask a court to order officials to perform these duties.
