Higher pay and allowances for Carroll commissioners

Beginning January 1, 2026, the chair’s yearly pay equals the sheriff’s base pay plus the sheriff’s cost‑of‑living raise, plus $25,000, plus any longevity pay. The county provides the chair with a vehicle at county expense. Each other commissioner gets a $20,250 annual base salary. Salaries are paid in equal monthly checks. Starting July 1, 2025, when full‑time county employees get a cost‑of‑living raise, commissioners’ base pay rises by the larger of that raise or the increase under state Code 36‑5‑28; if raises differ by group, commissioners use the average. The chair gets a $7,700 yearly expense allowance and each other member gets $3,100, paid from county funds. All salaries and allowances adjust each year under Code 36‑5‑28; when an increase is stated in dollars, it is converted to a percent by dividing by the average full‑time county salary.

New approval limit for county contracts

Starting January 1, 2026, county contracts (not employment contracts) over $35,000 must be approved. On July 1, 2025, and each July 1 after, the limit for the next fiscal year rises by the U.S. CPI‑U 12‑month change, rounded to the nearest dollar.
