Senior school tax break in Fulton

The law creates a 25% homestead break on Fulton County school taxes for seniors. It can start on January 1, 2026, only if voters approve it on November 4, 2025. You must be 65 or older by January 1, own and live in the home, and have had a homestead exemption in the district for five of the last six years. The break covers your home and up to five connected acres and applies only to Fulton school district taxes. You must file an initial application with the Fulton County Tax Commissioner; it then renews each year while you live there. It replaces other senior exemptions for Fulton school taxes but is on top of any other homestead exemptions you already get.

County vote on senior tax break

Fulton County must hold a vote on November 4, 2025, on the senior homestead school tax break. If more than half vote Yes, the exemption starts January 1, 2026. If it fails or the election is not run as required, the law is repealed one year after the election. The county pays the cost of the election. The superintendent must publish notice, run the vote, and certify the results. Any voter can ask a court to order the election if officials do not comply.
