Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Chair runs meetings and represents county

Beginning July 1, 2025, the chair runs all Long County board meetings unless the board passes a resolution to change that. Robert’s Rules of Order are the default meeting rules unless the board adopts different rules. The chair is also the official head of Long County for state, federal, and other authorities.

County manager role and backup plan

Beginning July 1, 2025, the board must hire a county manager to supervise and run Long County’s daily administration. The board must set the manager’s duties, limits, pay, and firing rules by ordinance. If the job is vacant due to death, incapacity, or termination, the board can vote in an open meeting to let the chair serve as interim manager. That interim approval ends 90 days after the vote.

Conflicting Long County rules repealed

Beginning July 1, 2025, any laws that conflict with this Act are repealed. This clears out old rules so the new county governance rules apply.
