Cedartown voters decide on redevelopment powers

Cedartown can use all powers in Georgia’s Redevelopment Powers Law, if voters approve. That includes tax allocation districts and tax allocation bonds. The referendum is on the Tuesday next following the third Tuesday in June, 2025. Officials must publish the date and purpose at least 90 days before. They also publish once a week for two weeks before, in Polk County’s official newspaper. The ballot shows ( ) YES ( ) NO. The city pays for the election, and the result is certified to the Georgia Secretary of State. Section 1 takes effect immediately if a majority votes YES. If it fails or is not held as required, Section 1 is repealed the next January 1.

When the law takes effect

Aside from the referendum, the law takes effect on the Governor’s approval or when it becomes law without approval. Section 2 controls when Section 1 starts. Any state law that conflicts with this Act is repealed.
