Lowndes homeowners get $12,000 county tax break

Beginning January 1, 2027, resident homeowners get $12,000 off the assessed value for county-purpose property taxes on their main home. You pay county tax only on value above $12,000. It does not cut taxes for county bonds, the state, schools, or cities. Apply with the Lowndes County tax commissioner. If you had the old $6,000 break, you are upgraded to $12,000 automatically. The break renews each year while you live there. Tell the tax office if you stop qualifying. This break replaces other county homestead breaks and cannot be stacked.
