Starting January 1, 2026, seniors who already had one of these local homestead exemptions keep it. You may also apply for other senior exemptions that remain open, including the 2024 county and school options. This protection takes effect only if Dawson County voters approve it in November 2025.
Beginning January 1, 2026, Dawson County stops taking new applications for four senior homestead exemptions. These include a $10,000 property tax break for ages 62–74 with income at or below $25,000. A full‑value break for ages 75+ with income at or below $25,000. A $60,000 county and school break for disabled people or ages 65+ with income at or below $50,000. And a $120,000 school break for ages 70+. These changes take effect only if Dawson County voters approve them in November 2025. If voters reject them, this section does not take effect and is repealed one year later.
