Special elections for Jackson commissioner seats

When a Jackson County commissioner seat becomes vacant and at least 180 days remain in the term, a special election is required. The election superintendent must call it within 15 days, and it follows Georgia’s Election Code (Title 21, Chapter 2). The winner takes office right after results are certified and they qualify. If the chair’s seat is vacant, the vice chair acts as chair until the new chair takes office. Until the election, the board may appoint a qualified person to serve temporarily using the subsection (c) process. The law repeals any conflicting laws.
