Higher homestead exemption for Calhoun seniors

Beginning January 1, 2026, senior homeowners in the City of Calhoun school district get a higher homestead exemption. It is $50,000 for ages 65 to 69, $115,000 for ages 70 to 74, and $125,000 for ages 75 and older. Age is measured on or before January 1 of the tax year; you must apply, and only your homestead qualifies. You still pay school taxes on any home value above the exempt amount. Voters decide this in a local election on Tuesday, November 4, 2025; a majority yes vote is required for the new amounts to start.
