Adoptees and families can get original birth records

Beginning July 1, 2025, you can request a copy of your original birth certificate. You must be 18 or older and born in Georgia. This applies only if your original was replaced after adoption, legitimation, or a paternity ruling. If the person is deceased, a parent, sibling, or descendant can request the copy. You must pay the state birth certificate fee set in Code Section 31-10-27. The copy is marked as not a certified copy and not for legal use.
