Higher insurance limits after DUI convictions

The law raises the minimum auto liability limits after a DUI. For a first DUI, you must carry at least $50,000 per person, $100,000 per crash for all people, and $50,000 property damage. For a second or later DUI, you must carry at least $100,000 per person, $300,000 per crash for all people, and $100,000 property damage. These higher limits replace Georgia’s usual minimums for you. You must keep this coverage without a break for 3 years from the conviction date. You must carry proof of the higher limits when driving; paper or a phone image is allowed. A conviction includes a guilty verdict, a guilty plea, or a nolo contendere plea. These rules apply to convictions on or after the law’s effective date.
