Teacher training tied to science of reading

The Professional Standards Commission sets rules for core curricula in every state-approved teacher prep program. Programs use State Board content standards aligned to the science of reading. They train teachers to teach phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension in clear, step-by-step ways, using multisensory methods. Programs include strategies for English learners, students with disabilities, and early checks for reading problems. They also cover content literacy and math practices, how to adjust lessons to student needs, research-based grading, and the use of technology and distance learning.

Conflicting older laws are repealed

Any Georgia law that conflicts with this Act is repealed where it conflicts. The new law controls when older laws differ from it.
