Starting July 1, 2025, the Hawaii Judiciary runs a permanent Women's Court Program in the First Circuit. It serves eligible nonviolent women and uses trauma-informed, evidence-based, and gender-responsive practices. Services include mental health care, family support, job training, medical care, substance use treatment, mentoring, and housing help.
Starting July 1, 2025, eligible nonviolent women in Kona can receive support through a Women's Court pilot. The Big Island Drug Court supervises the pilot, and the Judiciary provides mental health services. The program offers the same nine service areas as the First Circuit court, including treatment, job training, family support, and housing help. The pilot ends June 30, 2027. The law provides $514,900 for fiscal year 2025–2026 and $557,000 for 2026–2027, subject to available funds. The money pays for services, equipment, and one temporary probation supervisor, not direct household payments.
