Misusing a disability parking space brings a $250 to $500 fine, plus court costs, and an extra $100 assessment. This includes improper permit use, blocking an access aisle or access to the space, and refusing or failing to show identification when asked. A person with a valid, current permit who fails to display it pays a lower $25 to $100 fine and no extra assessment. District courts collect the assessment and send half to the state general fund and half to the Safe Routes to School special fund.
Parking a non-electric vehicle in a marked electric-vehicle space, or parking without charging in a space with a charger, brings a $50 to $100 fine, plus court costs, and an extra $50 assessment. No fine or assessment applies in a marked space if an officer finds the charger visibly broken or inoperable and records it in a report. District courts collect the assessment and send half to the state general fund and half to the Safe Routes to School special fund.
