Starting July 1, 2025, the Hawaii Judiciary pays $2,000 for each qualifying criminal examination. The payment covers the examination, report, consultation, preparation, testimony, and court attendance. It excludes examiners hired by a nonindigent defendant and state or county employees doing examinations as part of their usual duties under the director of health’s designation. The law also provides up to $975,000 from state general revenues for each of fiscal years 2025–2026 and 2026–2027, for the Judiciary to carry out the law.
