New civics honors for Iowa graduates
Beginning July 1, 2026, Iowa high school graduates can earn a Seal of Civics Excellence at participating schools. The Iowa Department of Education sets requirements, including knowledge of American government and participation in civic and community activities. School districts and accredited nonpublic schools choose whether to participate. The department provides seals, which can appear on diplomas, transcripts, or certificates. It may charge a small fee to cover printing and postage.
