Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

5% ticket tax on kickboxing events

Beginning July 1, 2026, promoters must file a report within 20 days after each kickboxing match showing tickets sold and gross admission receipts. They must pay a tax equal to 5% of gross admission receipts after deducting state sales tax, within 20 days. The value of free tickets over 5% of total tickets sold counts in gross receipts for the tax.

New licenses and rules for kickboxing promoters

Beginning July 1, 2026, Iowa regulates public professional or amateur kickboxing events when you charge admission, ask for donations, or sell food or merchandise. People who organize, hold, advertise, or run these matches are covered. Promoters must get a license from the commissioner; the rule does not cover people who only distribute closed‑circuit or pay‑per‑view signals to a promoter or to private homes. The commissioner can suspend, deny, or revoke licenses or participation rights for kickboxing.
