New commission promotes Iowa-Ireland trade

Beginning July 1, 2026, the law creates a commission to promote trade and investment between Iowa and the Republic of Ireland. It also promotes business and academic exchanges, mutual economic support, and investment in infrastructure. It recommends joint action on shared policy issues. Members include state lawmakers, trade association and Iowa industry representatives, and a representative of the authority. They serve renewable two-year terms without pay, and the authority provides administrative support. Meetings occur at least quarterly, follow open-meeting rules, and commission records are public. The commission reports its meetings, activities, and expenses to the governor and legislature within one calendar year of its first organizational meeting. Reports are then due each February 1 for the previous calendar year. The law states no specific funding amount or direct household benefit.
