Child care help for child care workers

Beginning July 1, 2026, children of Iowa child care workers can get state child care assistance. The parent must work at least 32 hours a week in direct child care. They must be counted in the state's required staff-to-child ratio. The child must attend a provider that accepts state reimbursement. The parent cannot own the site, or be a substitute or assistant at a home. If working in a home, the parent cannot care for their own child there. Directors and some admin staff qualify when they are regularly counted in ratios. The department must also find a need for care.

Copays required for workers' child care aid

Beginning July 1, 2026, families using this new worker-based eligibility must pay copays. The department sets the copay amounts and rules. The law does not list dollar amounts.
